Patricia Uberoi, an Australian woman, married an Indian professor in the 60s and moved to his home in New Delhi. They raised three children there, but the riots and the anti-Sikh feelings led to her encouraging her children to move to Australia. A documentary about a multicultural family becomes a commentary on the events surrounding the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.

Based on the intimate one-woman play staged by singer, actress and playwright, Thembi Mtshali, the film seeks an understanding from the mother as she explains the direct consequences of apartheid, which influenced her son's actions.

Henri Verneuil was born Achod Malakian of Armenian parentage on October 15, 1920, in Rodosto, Turkey, and his family fled to France and settled in Marseilles when he was a young child. He later recounted his childhood experience in the novel Mayrig, which he dedicated to his mother and made into this 1991 film with the same name.
